Magnum Photos, the leading photography agency, was founded in 1947 by Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger and David 'Chim' Seymour. Shaped by some of the most influential photographers of their time, the goal of the co-operative remains the same sixty years later: to support the production and the independent vision of its individual photographer members. Long associated with the classic values of photojournalism and 'concerned photography', its membership today - sixty photographers from around the world - reflect a diversity of contemporary approaches to the medium.

Georgian Spring falls within a long tradition of Magnum group projects that began with 'People are People the World Over', produced in 1948 by Robert Capa for Ladies Home Journal. Magnum's collective projects since include the books Paris Magnum (1981), Terre de Guerre (1982), Magnum en Chine (1988), In Our Time: The World as Seen by Magnum Photographers (1989), A l'est de Magnum (1991), Magnum Degrees (1999), New York September 11 (2001), Magnum Turkey (2007) and Access to Life (2009). All of Magnum's members are widely published in their own right.
