Guria

In the early 20th century Guria was home to infamous bands of outlaw terrorists who lived as partisans in the forests and ventured into the towns to bomb Tsarist police stations and assassinate Russian officers. Guria had a reputation for resistance — and also for horsemanship. Famous American impressarios sent scouts to Georgia in search of local riding talent. Many Gurians became famous trick riders in American shows and circuses, inclusing Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show, traveling all over the States in the days of vaudeville and spectaculars.
